Alexei, the producer, DJ and one-man band behind the critically acclaimed hip-hop duo Fly Gypsy, was born and raised in Russia, coming to the United States in his teens. He grew up on stage, dancing, and performing music. When he was eight, his parents bought the family’s first double-deck boombox and within a few weeks, Alexei was selling mixtapes in his elementary school.

Alexei’s unique production style reflects his diverse musical influences, from John Coltrane to Nirvana, from Curtis Mayfield to Lauryn Hill. Alexei’s DJ sets are equally diverse and eclectic. Mixing everything, from club to hip-hop, electronica to grime, dancehall to afro-beat, Alexei keeps both the casual club goers and the music aficionados engaged. Impressive technically, Alexei liberally swaps out vocals and instrumentals and retouches the tracks during his sets, effectively remixing the songs live.

Alexei and his music have been featured on MTVu and VH1 Soul and praised by the Source Magazine. Alexei-produced mixtapes and an album achieved thousands of downloads and have received rave reviews from Okayplayer (“Timeless example of the beauty in music”), Rap Reviews (“Could change what music is and what it should be”), and DJ Booth (“Alexei gives the original beat a decidedly more up-tempo makeover, adding in horns and kinetic drums”). Alexei has shared stage with Wale, Cee-Lo, Goodie Mob, Bun B., Mike Posner, Big Sean and many others.
