Project Celebrates 15 Years Since the Multiplatinum Album’s Release

(March 30, 2011, New York, NY) - Russian-born, New York-based producer and DJ Alexei is proud to announce the release of his latest project, Alexei Presents … Drizzy Settles the Score, a mashup album that pairs Drake with a hip-hop classic, The Score by The Fugees. The mashup marks 15 years since the release of The Score. The album is available for free download at djalexei.com.

On the project, Alexei updates the original Fugees’ album with new verses from Drake, as well as Andre 3000, Lil Wayne, Mos Def, Busta Rhymes, and Q-Tip, while also retaining some of the now-classic verses by Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras.

“The Score is easily my favorite hip-hop album of all time and I still listen to it regularly, often before I sit down to work on my own music,” says Alexei. “To keep it exciting after 15 years, I decided to spice it up a bit. The Score has texture and soul that you don’t find much in today’s production. Put that and Drake together, and you have an incredibly fun listen.”

Alexei, the creative force behind the critically acclaimed hip-hop duo Fly Gypsy, is an accomplished producer and DJ, whose mixtapes have received over 100,000 spins online. His music has been featured on mtvU and VH1 Soul and reached the No. 1 spot on college hip-hop charts. (November 1, 2010, New York, NY) - Russian-born, New York-based producer and DJ Alexei is proud to announce the release of his latest project, Alexei Presents … Weezy’s 90s Ball, Vol. 1, a remix and mashup album that pairs Lil Wayne with 90s rock classics from Nirvana, Radiohead, and other influential acts. The release, timed to mark Lil Wayne’s release from jail, comes after several days of uncertainly that followed when Universal Motown issued a cease and desist letter to block the release. The album is available for free download at 90sBall.com.

On the album, Alexei both reinterprets old Lil Wayne hits and combines the artist’s numerous — and, in some cases, obscure — feature verses to create new songs. Musically, the album is divided into tracks that retain the rock sensibility of the source material (“A Milli In Bloom,” “Zombie Musik”) and hip-hop-influenced tracks on which Alexei combines samples of 90s rock with hip-hop drums (“Bring Back That Raspy Shit,” “Gimme That, Rude Boy”).

The rock acts sampled on the album’s 22 tracks are Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, The Verve, Sugar Ray, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, The Dave Matthews Band, The Cranberries, Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine, R.E.M., Shakira, and Blind Melon. “Because Lil Wayne’s flow is so melodic, it sits incredibly well on top of rock tracks,” says Alexei. “And while I loved Rebirth, some fans might enjoy this ‘rock album’ a bit more because Wayne is rapping, rather than singing.”

Obama and hamburgers:

What in the world is Obama’s fascination with the hamburger spots (in Virginia at that). First, if he wants Americans to be healthier, him continuing to take folks there sends the wrong messages. Second, if he claims to care about the environment, he should be going easy on meat because industrial meat production has a huge carbon footprint, encourages deforestation, and both consumes and pollutes a lot of water. Third, he doesn’t need to prove that he is your common man anymore. The right-wing crazies won’t be persuaded and everyone else doesn’t give a damn whether he eats hamburgers or veggies from Michelle’s organic garden (in fact, his hamburger runs undercut the very thing that Michelle is trying to do).

And finally, there are tons of great restaurants in D.C. (and, sigh, Virginia, if you must). Take Medvedev to a good Indian joint - I’ve never had solid Indian food in Russia. Or Ethiopian. Or Mexican (ok, there is no real Mexican food in D.C., so Salvadorean would have to do). But stop the burgers! That’s just about the same as Bush serving hot dogs to Sarkozy and being proud of it… . Again, Michelle for president!

Probably the only remaining sane and thoughtful person in the White House press corps forced to retire after suggesting what most would agree with in abstract - that the occupying country should get out of the occupied territory. Of course, the country at issue here is Israel, so the normal rules don’t apply. The U.S. has lost all ability for meaningful public discourse. The moment someone disagrees with conventional wisdom or challenges the dominant narrative of the echo chamber, the person is marginalized (Bob Reich’s recent interview by a know-nothing CNN anchor is another good example).

Just in time for the long weekend (at least states-side), Fly Gypsy’s producer, one-man band, and DJ, Alexei, is releasing the first installment of his mixtape series that will highlight diverse music genres in a club-friendly format. Before delving into garifuna music, however, Alexei selects an obvious summer choice for the first installment — feel-good dance music. On “Alexei presents … The Club Fix,” Alexei mixes up hip hop and electro, dancehall and house in a continuous 75-min mix that will keep the energy high at any house party or cook-out. Alexei liberally swaps out vocals and instrumentals and retouches the tracks, turning out unpredictable mashups and remixes. The mixtape features Lil Wayne, Pitbull, Ludacris, David Guetta, Estelle, Busta Rhymes, Lauryn Hill, Nicki Minaj, LMFAO, Beenie Man, Jackson 5, Damian Marley and Nas, Janet Jackson, and many others. It also premieres the new Kanye West track “Diamonds.”
